Dyeing and other bits.

A very quick post tonight as I need to go and eat soon. Up for work at 5 am tomorrow so I don't like to eat too late.

The dyeing didn't turn out too badly. Certainly I have got plenty to play with for a while.

All dyed in the same container.

Backing for my Trentham entry

There are some people who don't like to cut into hand dyed fabric or don't think that they will work in more traditional settings. I say go for it. and just to show that they can work in traditional blocks I have made up Chris and Barbara's three sampler blocks using the fabric in the top picture and some cream cotton sateen. The patterns are on their website so do take a look - you might even find some classes that you fancy, all come highly recommended

Old Maid's Puzzle block

While it snowing yesterday (all gone today but more forecast) I made some postcards and ATCs as I had some painted batting left over. I also found  a piece that I had done with transfer paints at a workshop at Husqvarna several years ago so that got cut up and made into postcards as well.

I am feeling frustrated as my machine isn't back yet. I think they are waiting until a couple of attachments that I ordered arrive as they know I have a long way to travel. Trouble is I want to get started on the quilting for my Trentham entry and  my nice big table does not fit this one.  I can see that it's going to be a last minute thing again.

Hope you all have a good weekend and that the snow doesn't create the chaos that it did last time around.

  1. Beautiful fabrics Maggi and I love the blocks you made with them - love the postcards too. Hope the snow doesn't make life difficult for you - we were snowed in yesterday and will probably be again over the weekend if the forecast is correct. I hope March is an improvement on February! Sleep well - glad I don't have to get up so early.

  2. I agree, the fabrics are gorgeous. We didn't get much snow, I was hoping for enough to snow dye with. I've soda soaked some fabric and put it in bags in the freezer. If we don't get any more snow I will just dye the frozen fabric and hope to get some exciting patterns.

  3. What glorious fabric! I also love it in blocks - I am a bit guilty of thinking hand dyed won't work in traditional blocks... not anymore!

Also, love the idea of freezing fabric for dying - shame my chest freezer just gave up the ghost and my upright is jam packed!

  6. I think the opposite Maggi, that hand dyed fabrics add an extra dimension to a block, and yours prove it! They are gorgeous. I love your dyed fabrics, and your postcards and ATC's, how did you manage to get so much done in one day?

I hope your sewing machine is ready soon, it must be a bit like being without your right arm!

  8. When I did a workshop with Kaffe Fasset, he commented that no quilt should be ENTIRELY batiks/hand-dyes or ENTIRELY prints, but that a combination of all of them is best.

  12. Maggi, I haven't been keeping up with blogs recently but your recent entries are as fantastic and inspiring as ever. I think I'll have to retire again to have enough time to play - my work is far too busy at present. Hope you get your machine back soon.

  15. Hi Maggi, WOW those fabrics are just so gorgeous. I have some dyes sitting on my shelf, maybe they ought to just drop into a container and do their magic. I also love those ATC's and Postcards, you have been busy. Looking forward to seeing the Trentham entry.....Jan

  17. Le stoffe sono molto belle, i colori sono reali sembra di vedere la luce che filtra nel sottobosco.
Qui non nevica più ma continua a piovere. Verrà la primavera?

Fabrics are amazing, the colours are real and it seems to see the light filtered through the wood.
Here it stopped snowing but it keeps on raining. Will the spring arrive?
